LUMI is an all-in-one music streaming app that allows users to stream music, upload tracks, and purchase concert tickets—all in one place. Designed for music lovers and creators alike, LUMI offers the simplest way for fans to experience live performances by their favorite artists.
Developed in collaboration with designer Adelina Martinez using Figma, the app was built in five key phases: app research, user interviews, competitive analysis, persona creation, wireframing, prototyping, low-fidelity user testing, high-fidelity UI design, design systems, an interactive prototype, and final user testing.
Process
During our initial research, we focused on studying the 'SoundCloud' app, as we found its flow and design system to be the most seamless and user-friendly among major streaming platforms. For our unique flow we wanted to create the ability for users to purchase concert tickets. Additionally, we wanted to enhance connectivity by allowing users to follow not only artists and friends but also music venues, fostering a deeper connection with the artists they love.
User Personas
"We conducted user interviews targeting a demographic most likely to be interested in our app. Based on the feedback, Adelina and I developed user personas, representing the types of people we believed would benefit from and enjoy using our app. These personas helped us clarify our goals and guide the overall direction of the project.
User Flow
Lo-fi Wireframe with Prototyping
We created a low-fidelity wireframe of the app, complete with interactive prototyping, and had the same interviewees click through the app for testing.
Based on their feedback, we refined the low-fidelity wireframe and moved on to high-fidelity design and prototyping.
Final Design System
After completing user testing, we addressed the minor issues in our wireframes and were excited to move on to the next phase: creating the design system. We drew inspiration from popular apps and UI designs found on Dribbble, compiling a list of elements we liked. Both of us were drawn to bright, vibrant colors paired with bold, chunky fonts. Noticing that many music apps use a black or dark background, we decided to break away from that trend and chose a light tan color as our base background color.
Finished Product
After creating the design system, we proceeded to assemble the entire app and developed a working prototype. We conducted a final round of user testing, which revealed a few issues, including the checkout process feeling too robotic, small random stars appearing in unintended places, and a certain user flow not functioning as expected. After addressing these concerns, we successfully refined the app and completed the project. Enjoy the final result!
